3. Program Information - Music of a Peaceful World by 100 Artists
○ Chisejieum (治世之音)
- Music of a Peaceful World (chisejieum) literally means the melody that rules the world, the aspiration of the royal court music of Joseon.
This aspiration embodies the spirit of “Yeominrak” (meaning the king and common people enjoy music together), which aimed to make the world peaceful through music.
Yeominrak is a representative musical piece of the Joseon period, and an excerpt will be performed at the concert.
The program is an hour-long concert that starts with the royal court music “Yeominrak,” and moves onto pieces and jeongak (Korean classical genre), sanjo (solo instrumental), and original compositions that reflect the reigning of a peaceful world with music.
Three of Korea's official master musicians, gayageum master Lee Ji-young (professor at Seoul National University), daegeum master Kim Jeong-seung (professor at Seoul National University), and haegeum master Noh Eun-ah (professor at Seoul National University), will perform together with 100 performers and students from Seoul National University.
The concert focuses on the three most popular traditional Korean instruments (gayageum, haegeum, and daegeum). All compositions are newly organized to highlight the charms of the instruments and their ensembles.
"Sound of Governing the World" (治世之音)
This phrase means "the music that governs the world," which was the aspiration of the royal court music of the Joseon Dynasty.
